On The Death Of The Duke Of Edinburgh

Youth Link NI is saddened by the death of His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. His death is a huge personal and family loss; a husband of 73 years, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. A human family grieves and our sympathy is with them.

Youth Link pays tribute to Prince Philip’s immense contribution to public life, in two particular areas. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme has changed the lives of thousands of young people, not least in Northern Ireland. This legacy will last and the Award continue to challenge and change young people for years to come.

Youth Link pays tribute also to the Duke of Edinburgh’s public commitment to conservation and environmental issues. In this he was well ahead of these now urgent concerns. For many young people this is the biggest challenge facing the planet today and their defining and global commitment to it will draw inspiration from the Duke of Edinburgh’s foresight and practical engagement for eco-justice.

Youth Link NI acknowledges these immeasurable contributions of the Duke of Edinburgh to public life and is encouraged in its work with young people to build on these legacies.
